Ook het Belgische spoornet \u2013 goed voor bijna <strong>6 400<\/strong> kilometer aan spoorlijnen \u2013 werd door infrastructuurbeheerder <strong>Infrabel<\/strong> volledig uitgerust met dit veiligheidssysteem.<br \/>\nETCS helpt voorkomen dat rode seinen worden voorbijgereden en verhoogt de <strong>veiligheid van het spoorverkeer<\/strong>, zowel voor reizigers als voor het personeel.<\/p>\n<p>Het veiligheidssysteem grijpt ook in wanneer de toegestane maximumsnelheid overschreden wordt. De uitrol is het resultaat van ongeveer <strong>tien jaar werk<\/strong> dat van start ging na <strong>het tragische ongeval in Buizingen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Het programma <strong>CEF Transport<\/strong> (Connecting Europe Facility) vormt een grote steun bij de uitrol van ETCS.<\/p>\n<p>De implementatie van het programma CEF Transport wordt beheerd door <strong>CINEA<\/strong> (the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency).<\/p>\n<p>CINEA heeft in <strong>2024<\/strong> besloten de industrialisatie van de migratie van de locomotieven <strong>T18-19<\/strong>, de <strong>Desiro-motorstellen<\/strong> en de stuurpostrijtuigen <strong>type M6<\/strong> naar het ETCS-niveau 2, <strong>baseline 3<\/strong> te steunen.
